This movie is delivered from the vantage point of 2055, a time in the future when the environmental problems facing the planet have amplified and reached a level of urgency never before experienced by the global community. It is a “scorching appeal for humans to avoid knowingly up-ending the earth’s climate”. People are reflecting on their world and asking a multitude of questions. How could they have let this happen, where were our world leaders, where were our politicians – the science was available, the signs were clear. What state of mind were they in, to face disaster and simply shrug it off? The Earth is on a course to dramatic change in the near future. Most people think that this is a bad thing. Come and watch the movie – the argument for changing our course is compelling. It will galvanize you into action! MOVIE: THE AGE OF STUPID. LOCATION: Soldiers Memorial Hall, 1107 Garrett Street, Sharbot Lake, Ontario. DATE: Jan.24, 2010, at 1pm. Price is $10. The viewing will be followed by a brief discussion....and there are door prizes. Ottawa (January 28, 2009) - The Green Budget Coalition caucuses, comprising 20 of Canada’s leading environmental and conservation organizations, today released its response to the 2009 federal budget. Nature Caucus Members of the Green Budget Coalition (GBC) are deeply disappointed about the lack of new commitments to protect nature in the 2009 Federal budget, and its failure to capitalize on this opportunity to move Canada toward a green economy. The GBC submitted budgetary recommendations for much needed funds for ocean conservation, protecting ecologically sensitive land and waterscapes from industrial activity, conserving biodiversity in national parks, national wildlife areas, marine protected areas and migratory bird sanctuaries, and protecting migratory birds. Each of these areas has been completely ignored in this budget. |

Vision Green: Carbon Tax
Vision Green presents rational, realistic solutions to the challenges facing Canadians. This month, we focus on our carbon plan, which is a crucial element to any viable climate change strategy. For too long we have allowed the atmosphere to be a free dumping ground for harmful greenhouse gases. We must put an end to this practice by placing a price on polluting our atmosphere by taxing things that emit carbon dioxide, like gasoline, natural gas and coal. Goods and services that cause very high emissions would therefore become relatively more expensive. This would create an incentive for everyone to make economic choices that contribute less to climate change. |

Greens take aim at nuclear: Not safe and not a solution to the climate crisis "Canada must phase out nuclear and support renewable energy" OTTAWA – The Green Party today renewed its call for a rapid phase-out of nuclear energy and a moratorium on uranium mining and refining in Canada. The call comes as locals prepare to take action against prospecting by mining companies in both Ontario and New Brunswick. In New Brunswick, CVRD-Inco plans to prospect for uranium in a Moncton watershed. In Eastern Ontario, Frontenac Ventures is exploring for uranium on Algonquin territory in North Frontenac amid protests. There are also renewed threats of uranium mining in Nova Scotia, despite a province-wide ban. |
